Archive: "You Built Me"- Film Photographs of Halle From 2012 and Prior
As an aspiring photographer in high school, who lived with her parents outside of the city limits, I found it difficult to find people to model for me. I was constantly seeking to create new ideas through film but I didn’t have the subjects to help me. This is one reason I did so many self portraits in the past- you are your best model. However, I got tired of photographing myself. Luckily I had many siblings, but I have to admit, Halle was the model who built me into the photographer I am today. Halle helped me create all the ideas I had. She would dress up in wild clothing and hike to a cool spot with me. I remember one time I had her wear a leopard costume and hike into the snowy forest with me just so we could create art. We started our creative path together when she was no more than 7 years old and here we are (19 and 26 years old) still creating art together.
I have scanned a few images I found of Halle, from 2009-2012-ish, and have published them below. Enjoy these small film stories of Halle, the tiny model who built me.
These two images of Halle, in the buttercup patch/ dirt yard, are from my first roll of film ever. I love how I can remember that detail when I look at these photos.
These 5 images are from a film set up I created the woods behind my parents house in 2010/2011 on 35mm film. The B&W has been post processed in Lightroom but the other images are SOOC/ scanned.
These 2 images are from a past summer. I’m not sure when but the sparkler photo is a moment before Forth of July fireworks, and the black and white image is a moment from Harper Ferry while crossing the train tracks. The B&W has been post processed in Lightroom but the other image is SOOC/ scanned.
These 6 colorful images are from a photoshoot/ creation I did at Harpers Ferry with Halle and her cute pal, Georgia. Their hair color is LEGIT- I did not post process any of these images; they are all SOOC/ scanned.
Halle and Georgia were super cool young girls (and still are) and I wanted them to model a 1990’s inspired film shoot.
These 3 images were created at a hidden pond near my parents house. It was a summer, shady day and I remember feeling really creative so I brought my friend, twin sister, and Halle with me so we could create art on film. This was probably back in 2010/2011.
These last few images are in the winter, just down the road from my parents home. We found a nearby over-grown field where I took “dark” pictures of Halle. I wanted to give off a spooky, creepy vibe. There are a few more images from this set but at the time I decided to burn the edges and other parts to make them even more creepy. Instead of sharing those, I decided to only scan in undamaged images.
The B&W has been post processed in Lightroom but the other images are SOOC/ scanned.
