The Barn Loft Studio- Peyton Olivia's Private Photography Studio in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland - Now Booking 2020

Happy New Year! 2020 is here!

Over the winter of 2019, I spent a lot of my time finishing up areas within The Barn Loft Studio. Most of the time I came home covered in white paint and smelling like an old dusty barn. After 3 years of cleaning, trashing, organizing, hauling, and painting, The Barn Loft Studio has finally been photographed.

The Barn Loft Studio was built by my grandparents when they were young. The loft still has a basketball hoop my grandparents installed so they could play a game time to time, indoors. My aunt held her horse here when she was little and my childhood neighbors homed their horse, Sam, here as well for may years. When I was young my twin sister, my neighbor friend, and I would venture up into the loft of the barn where large antiques were stored. We would image ourselves older, hopefully cleaning it out so we could use the space as a business location or restaurant. We would also use the loft as a fort, or a secret hid out. The barn was a place for solitude and imagination to blossom.
The first floor of the barn was, and still is, used as storage for small antiques and collectables my grandfather collected most of his life. Down there, he and my twin sister would open up shop during the summertime and sell antiques to collectors. After my grandfather passed away in 2016, the barn went still. My sister no longer sold antiques within the barn so summers there went untouched. Eventually, I wandered back into the barn and decided to take use of the beautiful space that held memories of my childhood- memories of starting a business inside this beautiful space.
In 2016, I started to clean out the loft of the barn to create a photography studio. It’s now 2020 and the loft is 98% complete and has held many photo shoots. These past 3 years have shown me dedication and hard work and appreciation for others hard work. I couldn’t have done a lot of the work with out the help of my boyfriend, friends, and family. Have you ever tried lifting old pinball machines or antique grandfather clocks down a flight of stairs? It’s a task for 3+ people, indeed!
The Barn Loft Studio is now an open space which can transform during my photo shoots. It homes many different items and props to use during sessions such as stools, chairs, a large maroon settee, ladder, step stools, and rugs. There is also a private dressing room with a full length mirror, window with a view, hamper, dresser full of fabrics, scarves, and other accessories, and a closet/wardrobe for Boudoir clients to choose from.
The remaining space includes a work station/ desk stored with cleaning supplies, props, extension cords, and multi-use outlet source. There is a barn door that can be opened to the open field in front of the barn; during golden hour, if the door is open, the studio space is warm and glowing orange. There is an upper loft but it can only be accessed by myself if I desire to photograph my client from a higher position. Clients are not allowed onto the upper loft by any means.
The barn is considered rustic (meaning no electricity or plumbing) and the only source of electricity is via an outside port. When using the studio, most sessions are held during daytime which offers beautiful, ambient, natural light for photography sessions. Electricity is usually used for AC or Heat usage during summer or winter sessions. There is neither a restroom within the barn. Clients are encouraged to use the restroom before their session, otherwise they will be welcomed to experience the beautiful outdoors in private!
The Barn Loft Studio is considered Peyton Olivia’s private studio, meaning it is not a space for rent or lease. Clients who request a session within the studio, with Peyton Olivia Photography, must sign a contract before entering.
As a 2020 or future client of Peyton Olivia Photography, you will have the option of booking a session within The Barn Loft Studio. Before your session, a tour of the space is available to you in order to make sure it meets all of your needs! Clients who book this space will also be welcomed with complimentary coffee during their photography session! How can anyone get through a session without a little cup of coffee?
I hope to see you in the studio soon so I can capture your story as beautiful and as truthfully as I can.
